First, you will have a significantly broader array of complementary CA products and services to choose from. As you may know, there are tremendous synergies between the CA and PLATINUM product lines and technologies. When these technologies are brought together, we will be better able to serve you in more areas across the technology spectrum, including e-commerce, business and data modeling, DBMS tools, data warehousing, enterprise management, and application development.
The merger will also strengthen our Global Professional Services organization. This will mean more expertise on strategic technologies. By teaming two leading-edge service organizations, we will be able to help you implement a wider range of information technology projects and knowledge portals.
Computer Associates places a high value on the resources of the companies we acquire — the technologies, the people, and the business relationships — and our objective is to draw upon the best resources and practices of each company. The goal of this acquisition is to extend our ability to create the most comprehensive and effective solutions to address your pressing business challenges, and to offer technologies that can generate new opportunities for your business. While there is some minimal overlap between the CA and PLATINUM product lines, we have a proven track record, dating back to 1987, of supporting overlapping products (such as tape management, scheduling, and security). We have committed that within 90 days of completion of the acquisition, we will publish our strategic directions for taking the PLATINUM products forward. Further, it is our expectation that, although we have not yet completed our in-depth technical product reviews, we will support the PLATINUM products for a minimum of two years.
