Computer Associates announced plans to provide support for Microsoft Data Protection Server (DPS), part of the Windows Server System, across its BrightStor storage management and eTrust security management product lines. This support will enable customers to enhance DPS disk-to-disk backup technologies by adding complementary data monitoring, virus protection and tape backup capabilities.
CA's announcement, made at Storage Decisions 2004 in Chicago, coincided with the announcement of Microsoft's entry into the disk-based backup and recovery market with DPS.
“With Data Protection Server, Microsoft has again responded to customers' expanding data storage needs,” said Anders Lofgren, vice president of BrightStor storage management at CA. “CA's support for Data Protection Server will enable customers to maximize the benefits of DPS with seamless integration into the enterprise environment.”
BrightStor ARCserve Backup will provide high-performance tape backup of DPS, enabling customers to economically store large volumes of data offline while helping to ensure seamless recovery. By taking advantage of the integration between BrightStor ARCserve Backup and eTrust Antivirus, DPS users will be able to fulfill their networked storage security requirements by automatically detecting and eliminating viruses and other malicious code from backed up files. Similarly, BrightStor storage management solutions will enable reporting of DPS managed data.
eTrust Antivirus is designed to help customers successfully fend off the onslaught of viruses, from the smallest offices to the largest enterprises. It eases antivirus administration by providing a single console for managing IT environments, and delivers simplified methods to implement, administer and update virus signatures. CA's eTrust antivirus technology has received ICSA Labs certification and a record 39 Virus Bulletin “VB100%” awards for detecting 100% of viruses “in-the-wild.” It is supported by the global CA Security Advisor research centers, which provide vulnerability and configuration research and around-the-clock monitoring and protection against malicious code, spyware/adware and blended threats.
